We differentiate with solenoid made of brass or stainless steel between servo controlled, force pilot operated and directly operated valves. Servo controlled valves require a pressure difference (indicated as lower value of the operating pressure) between inlet and outlet in order to switch. A large portion of the economical solenoid valves work according to this principle. With force pilot operated valves this pressure difference is not required, as a higher performance solenoid coil supports the diaphragm in its movement (higher procurement and operating costs), direct-controlled valves can also be operated without differential pressure, here the valve is only switched by magnets, which is only economically practical with small nominal widths.
